BIOGRAPHY

Alexia Eggleston, also known as Alex, uses photography and video to explore her identity as an African American person in America. Eggleston has grown up in the suburbs of Laurel, Maryland and has chosen to focus on her upbringing and the family dynamics that have also changed with her growth. Using medium format film photography, digital photography, collage, and text, Eggleston has created an experience where the viewer is not only receiving the perspective of the artist, but also the subjects.
Eggleston’s main source of inspiration is her family and personal life experiences. Through her undergraduate schooling, Eggleston has participated in the PCA&D-Zayed Photography Cultural Exchange Blog; all four years of her undergraduate career. Eggleston has also received the Mary Colleen Heil Scholarship through Pennsylvania College of Art and Design and was regarded as “an exceptional rising junior”. Eggleston’s work has been featured in the 2021 Joy issue in Black Voices Magazine. Eggleston has also had five pieces accepted to the National Council on Aging Annual Group Exhibition “2022 Age and Action” and received an honorable mention award for one of the five photos that were accepted into the exhibition. Along with those high honors, Eggleston's latest exhibition was at Rowan University for a group exhibition titled “Expanded View”.
